The Weeknd, Madonna, and Playboi Carti Perform "Popular": Watch Now

Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye gets Madonna, the first pop star, and Playboi Carti to join him on his new song "Popular," which came out on Friday, June 2.

The song comes out before The Idol Vol. 1 soundtrack, which you can pre-order here, and the HBO show, which Sam Levinson is directing and will start this Sunday, June 4.

"Popular" joins the lead song for the soundtrack, "Double Fantasy," which features Future and was first performed by Tesfaye during Metro Boomin's set at Coachella before it was released on April 21.

The highest the song got on the Billboard Hot 100 was No. 18.

Tesfaye shared a picture of Madonna with a burning heart emoji on his Instagram account a month before "Popular" came out.

Then he properly teased the song while walking with his Idol castmates, including Lily-Rose Depp, BLACKPINK's Jennie, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, and others, on the red carpet at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, where the controversial series got a five-minute standing applause.

Fans thought that Tesfaye and Carti had worked together, so he posted a picture of their FaceTime call on Twitter to prove it.

"Popular" is the first time Madonna and Carti have worked with Tesfaye, and it's also Madonna and Carti's first music release of 2023.
