CBS News Philadelphia talked to a lot of people who were going to restaurants, bars, shows, and even the beach to enjoy the sun. They say they've been looking forward to this weekend for a while.
The sun going down over the Boardwalk in Atlantic City. The air was filled with a salty breeze, and the rides at the Steel Pier were ready to go.
It's almost summer, but not quite. Pina Vricella said, "I am so happy because Memorial Day is my favorite holiday." "It's better than Christmas!"
Many people are dreading the traffic as they drive from far and wide to start their summer.
"Yes, eight hours," replied one tourist. "We came from the state of North Carolina."
And in Wildwood, everyone was on the Boardwalk and the trams were running. Along the Jersey Shore, the crowds didn't let anyone down.
People we talked to said they were looking forward to taking it easy and spending time with friends and family."
One visitor said, "After a long winter, this is the start of summer, so we're looking forward to it."
