Memorial Day travel: Officials predict record numbers.

Northwest Arkansas National Airport officials predict a busy, maybe record traffic weekend during a terminal makeover.

"We are expecting what will possibly be the busiest Memorial Day in XNA history," stated Andrew Branch, COO. "Due to terminal construction, we recommend arriving two hours before departure."

Public relations manager Olivia Moore said the airport is already running at a record pace for the year.

"We had the busiest March and April in airport history, and AAA predicts that Memorial Day weekend will be the busiest since 2005," Moore added.

Moore recommends airport online services to tourists. "Passengers can also prebook parking at www.flyxnaparking.com, and they can check estimated security wait times on www.flyxna.com on our security page," Moore added.

AAA predicts 42.3 million Americans to travel 50 miles or more during the holiday weekend, 2.7 million higher than 2022 but still below prepandemic travel rates.

AAA Travel Senior Vice President Paula Twidale predicted the third-busiest Memorial Day weekend since 2000 in a press release.

Despite inflation, Americans are booking vacations early. Twidale predicted a record summer travel season, particularly at airports.
