Commanders cut newly acquired CB, likely release veteran All-Pro OL

In March, the Commanders claimed Cameron Dantzler off waivers from the Vikings. The NFC East team will cease this collaboration. Washington announced Dantzler's dismissal Tuesday.

Fourth-year cornerback will return to waivers. Washington also placed guard Andrew Norwell on reserve/PUP.

Norwell started 16 Commanders games last season.

Last year, Washington gave Norwell a two-year, $10M contract with $4.7M guaranteed. Release Norwell after June 1 to free up $4.38M for the Commanders.

Norwell, who joined ex-Rivera charge Trai Turner on Washington's O-line last season, has nine NFL seasons. Turner left Washington.

Rivera said last month that Saahdiq Charles and Chris Paul will compete for the left guard position, which Norwell held until Week 18.

Norwell played every offensive snap until Washington's season finale, missing Sam Howell's debut with a hip injury.

The former All-Pro, who turned 31 in 2022, may still have hip issues.
