"American Idol" Surprise Duet With Elli Roll and Oliver Steele

Oliver Steele returns to American Idol for the Season 21 finale. Steele performed with Jelly Roll on Sunday, May 21.

The 25-year-old vocalist completed Jelly Roll's "Need A Favor" opening verse as he sang. “Son Of A Sinner” and “Dead Man Walking” preceded this song on country radio.

The two easily sang the song's hard-hitting tune about a guy who has a spiritual awakening while attempting to persuade his love interest to stay.

As he folds his hands and lowers his head, the character knows he doesn't deserve the favor he's praying for, but he'll do whatever to repent his unconnected past.

Jelly Roll's patchwork jacket and black trousers complemented Steele's blue and white tie-dye t-shirt and distressed black jeans.

Steele's gritty vocals carried the song's strong tale, co-written by Jelly Roll, Austin Nivarel, Joe Ragosta, and Rob Ragosta. He and Jelly Roll continued the song together when the audience roared.

“I only talk to God when I need a favor / And I only pray when I ain’t got a prayer / So, who the hell am I, who the hell am I / To expect a Savior, oh / If I only talk to God when I need a favor / But God, I need a favor / Amen, amen,” they sang in the chorus.

Steele, who grew within Mt. Juliet, is 25 miles from Jelly Roll.
