State hosts public hearing on proposed highway expansion

Despite the work being done daily, it may seem as though construction will never cease on IH 10. The latest proposed

project is set for a public hearing next week.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is planning to expand from four lanes to eight along IH 10 from Hwy. 46 to Ralph Fair Road.

The 10-mile expansion, that includes adding a High Occupancy Vehicle lane in each direction, extends from Kendall to Bexar County.

Boerne City Manager Ron Bowman briefed council members Tuesday night on the various road projects in progress in and around Boerne, including sidewalk construction on W. San Antonio, a turn lane on Old San Antonio Road, River Road crosswalk improvements and Blanco Road crosswalk improvements, most of which are either completed, on schedule or expected to be completed in 2019.

In San Antonio, TxDOT has proposed an extended interchange at IH 10 and Loop 1604, that would create 10 traffic lanes.

“So they’re going to complete what they’re doing now and tear it all up again?” Council Member Nina Woolard said. “It’s going to be interesting.”

TxDOT will host a public hearing for the IH 10 to Hwy. 46 project on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Boerne Middle School South, at 6 p.m. Environmental reports, maps and other project details will be available for public viewing beginning at 5 p.m.

Verbal and written comments may be made at the hearing, or submitted in person or by email to info@I10from46-3351.com. To be part of the official hearing record, comments must be received on or before Oct. 17.

Written comments may be mailed to I-10 from SH 46 to FM 3351
