Distraught Kendall County resident involved in stand-off with KCSO

On September 29, 2019, at approximately 6:15 p.m., Kendall County Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Doeskin Drive in reference to an unknown disturbance involving Richard Dewhirst.

Deputies arrived and during the course of the investigation learned that Richard had an extensive history of alcohol abuse, and had recently threatened suicide by cop.

Deputies gathered all necessary information and arranged to meet Richard in the church parking lot next to Starbucks. Richard arrived at the parking lot and units surrounded him. Richard refused to exit the vehicle while brandishing a pistol and pointing it at his head. After approximately 18 minutes, Richard surrendered and was taken into custody.

Richard was transported to the Kendall County Detention Center where he was booked without further incident. This case is still under investigation.
